Character Name: Odessa Silverberg

Series: Suikoden I

Point in canon: IS 455. She remembers returning to Lenankamp with Tir McDohl, protecting the child in the Liberation Army's headquarters and being attacked by the Imperial soldier, but she does not remember dying. At the time of her death, she was 25.

Character Background: Odessa is the youngest child of Jonathan and Ariana Silverberg and the sister of Mathiu. As members of the Imperial Nobility, her parents were well connected in the Scarlet Moon Empire, and her father worked as an advisor to Emperor Barbarossa.

Shortly after her fifth birthday, Odessa's parents were murdered by enemies of Barbarossa. She and Mathiu were sent to live with her father's younger brother, Leon and their lives became much more difficult.

Odessa spent her days at Leon's manor studying the typical subjects available to women. She also bribed her brother to teach her some of the lessons in military strategy that he learned from Leon and his terms at Soledt Academy.

When she was fifteen, her brother disappeared from the Scarlet Moon Empire. Mathiu's departure from her life caused her great despair and raised many questions. He would occasionally send her letters, but those proved far and few between.

Shortly after her eighteenth birthday, her uncle arranged a marriage for her to a man named Achilles. Odessa never really took to her fiance. One thing that they did agree on was the corruption of the empire. In their time together, Odessa learned first hand how horrible the lower classes of Scarlet Moon were treated.

Achilles was murdered before their wedding by Imperial soldiers. Odessa did her best to defend herself during the attack and only suffered minor injuries.

When Odessa learned her brother had returned to Scarlet Moon, she paid him a visit, begging him to help her. He refused and told her that she stood little chance in her goal. This just caused her to work harder. She gathered many followers in the years that followed and despite Mathiu's constant refusals and rebuffs, she visited him often to ask his counsel and to beg him to join her.

Her followers grew, and soon the Toran Liberation Army became a formidable threat to the Emperor. The members of the Toran Liberation Army were loyal to Odessa and the cause, although it was rumoured that many had joined up just to be close to Odessa. The Toran Liberation Army, however, was betrayed by one of its members when the location of their base in Lenankamp was leaked to the Imperial Army. Rushing in to defend a young child, Odessa was mortally injured by an Imperial soldier.

Character personality: Odessa is a warm and caring person. She tends to put the needs of others before her own needs, especially if she is concerned for that person. She is a great listener and is also very charismatic. She is outgoing, friendly, and trusts easily (which can be a weakness). She is an idealist - she tries to see things the way that they can and should be.

Physical description: Odessa is slight and of average height. She has long red hair (it reaches to the small of her back) and blue eyes. She carries herself as any aristocrat would - head held high and back straight. Since renouncing her noble status, she has taken to wearing tunics and leggings, since it is much easier to fight, recruit, and hunt in them than in dresses.

Magical powers or special skills: Odessa is equipped with a Wind Rune, which allows her to cast the following spells:

• Wind of Sleep: A burst of feathers erupts on the battlefield and a strong wind swirls them around, sending the enemies to sleep.
  
• The Shredding: Energy centers on the caster and 2 wind blades are thrown at the target.
  
• Healing Wind: A light-blue sparkle descends from the sky and heals the targeted character in a bright pillar of light.
  
• Storm: A long wind blade appears in front of the caster and cuts through the enemies.

Odessa is a skilled archer. She has limited experience with swords. She is also a very skilled strategist. She is a good sewer and a good cook. She can sing fairly well, but doesn't know how to play an musical instruments.
